Multicultural coexistence is a main feature of American society. In their social interactivities with the White Americans, African Americans, because of their special historical experiences, have been frequently puzzled by a dilemma, to be assimilated or culturally independent. The discourses of African American writers reveal the African American experiences in their striving for cultural identity.
