Objective:To evaluate the correlation relationship between Angle's classification and sagittal maxillomandibular classification.Method: The subjects comprised 361 patients from the orthodontic clinic in recent five years whose age were 14~18. All subjects were classified by Angle's classification into three kinds with casts; meanwhile the number and percentage corresponding to them were listed by sagittal skeletal classification with ANB measurement. Also all subjects were classified by sagittal skeletal classification into three kinds with ANB measurement, meanwhile the number and percentage corresponding to them were listed by Angle's classification. The ranks of Angle's classification and sagittal skeletal classification were arranged from class Ⅲ to class Ⅱ and classⅠrespectively. The correlation was analyzed with Kendall' rank analysis. Result: The coefficient (τ) of correlation between Angle's classification and sagittal skeletal classification was 0.4643. There was a higher statistic significance in the coefficient of correlation(u=4.368>2.58,P<0.01).Conclusion: There is a correlation relationship between Angle's classification and sagittal maxillomandibular classification. There is an approximate corresponding quantity distribution between the two classifications. Angle's class Ⅰcorresponds to sagittal skeletal classification (Ⅰ∶Ⅱ∶Ⅲ)4∶1∶1; Angle's class Ⅱ 2∶1∶0; Angle's class Ⅲ 1∶0∶2. Sagittal skeletal class Ⅰ corresponds to Angle's classification (Ⅰ∶Ⅱ∶Ⅲ) 3∶2∶1; Sagittal skeletal class Ⅱ 2∶3∶0; Sagittal skeletal class Ⅲ 1∶0∶3.
