汉语“四声”之形成与佛经“转读”无关论

The Formation of "Four Tones" of Chinese Didn't Result from "Reading in Chinese" of Sutra

关于汉语四声形成的原因,陈寅恪先生认为是由于"转读"佛经与古印度声明论之传入所致。通过对六朝时期"转读"材料的专门考察证明,"转读"不仅不是源自天竺之梵音,反而是僧人入晋后"适时"的结果,加之"转读唱导"在佛界中地位低下,因此"转读"既没有、也不能对汉语四声的形成起到关键作用。

Chen Yinque thought that four tones of Chinese came into being because of the 'reading in Chinese' of sutra and the introduction of the theory of 'tone' in ancient India. By the expert reviewing about the datum of 'reading in Chinese' in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, we discovered that 'translating' didn't root in the pronunciation of Sanskrit. On the contrary, we find that it's the 'timely' result after shaman entered Jin Dynasty. In addition, the status of 'reading and singing in Chinese' was pimping in the field of Buddhism; so 'reading in Chinese' didn't and can't bring pivotal effection to the formation of four tones of Chinese.
