Upper Yangtze water resources development and its impact on middle—lower Yangtze economy, society and environment

开发长江上游丰富的水资源,不仅将大大促进长江上游地区经济、社会的发展,而且对长江中下游地区的经济、社会发展也有着十分显著的效益,可提高中下游防洪标准、向中下游地区输送大量的电能,改善中下游干流航运条件,减少流入中下游的泥沙数量、为中下游地区提供载能体原材料,保护中下游生态与环境、改善南水北调水源条件等,其影响是广泛而深远的。

To develop the rich water resources of the upper Yangtze is not just favoring the great development of economy and society in that area, however significant economic and social development benefits are all gained in the middle—lower Yangtze. These benefits will give a far reaching and broad effects to this area for raising the criteria of flood control, supplying hydroelectric power, improving navigation of the main stream, reducing sediments entering these two reaches, providing regulated water flow for power generation, protecting biosphere and environment and upgrading water sources conditions of the water transfer from south to north project etc.
