The paper theoretically analyses the legal effect of the contractof carriage of goods by sea on the third party, which is deemed tocorrespond to the new trend of the extension of the contractual eLfect on the third party in the law of contract- The paper stressesthat the issue of B/L gives rise to the legal relationship of the B/Lbetween the carrier and the holder of B/L independent of the con-tract of carriage and affects thc shipper’s right to claim for cargodamages.
