Trial Excavation of the Dongdongcun Site in Zhangqiu County, Shandong

In October, 1990, the Shandong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology carried out excavation at the Dongdong-cun site in Zhangqiu county, Shandong, and revealed there remains of the Dawenkou culture and Shang～Zhou period. The former deposits are concentratedly distributed in the center and east of the site. Its pottery shows features of the early Dawenkou culture and falls mainly into the jar, bowl, ding tripod, cup, basin, and dou stemmed vessel. The Shang～Zhou remains include two house-foundations, seven ash-pits and an ash-trench. The unearthed objects are in a small number, principally pottery, which is largely brown sandy ware and belongs mainly to the li tripod, dou and jar. The two house-foundations are dated to the fourth phase of the Yinxu culture, corresponding to the Yi Xin reign.
