On illegal recruitment of false British nationals in Xinjiang under the Republic of China

民国年间 ,英殖民主义者在新疆地区以免税通商票为诱饵大肆勾引华民冒入英籍 ,并假借保护国名义诱使在华阿富汗商民冒充英侨 ,图谋培植亲英势力 ,以利与沙俄争霸并进而侵吞中国。民国各级政府采取了加强通商票管理、推行中英会查英侨制度、抵制英人推行在疆英侨“注册新例”等一系列对策 。

During the years of the Republic of China,the British colonialists wantonly tempted the chinese in Xinjiang to illegaly gain British nationality by means of the tax-free trade certificate.And under the pretext of being their protectorate,the colonialists inveigled Afghanistan merchants living in China into pretending to be British nationals and plotted building up pro-British influence in order to scramble with Russian for hegemony and then to swallow up China. The governments at all levels of the Republic of China took a series of countermeasures,such as strengthening the control of the tax-free trade certificate,carrying out the Chinese-British joint indentification system of nationality and resisting the new national registration method practiced by British in Xinjiang.As a result,the sinister political intentions of British colonialists were limited to a certain degree.
