Can New Institutional Economics Unify Social Science?

本文对科斯和诺思提出的新制度经济学能统一社会科学的命题进行了诠释。与其说新制度经济学统一社会科学,倒不如说它们之间是一种互动关系,他们相互需要。没有其他社会科学的支撑,新制度经济学的研究很难向纵深方面发展;社会科学借助新制度经济学的理论和方法可以大大地拓展研究领域,提高其解释力。这种互动将有利于社会科学(包括经济学)的繁荣与发展。

This paper illustrates the proposition put forward by Ronald Coase and Douglass North that New Institutional Economics can unify social science. It concludes that it's better to say there is a relationship of interaction and mutual need between New Istitutional Economics and social science, than that New Institutional Economics can integrate social science. Without the support of other social science disciplines, New Institutional Economics cannot be developed profoundly; social science can broaden its research area and improve its explanation capacities by adopting the theories and methods of New Institutional Economics. This interaction will benefit the prosperity and development of social science including economics.
