This paper discusses the trend of urban planning from the perceptual stage to digital stage in idea and technology, and then introduces the features and the key technologies of virtual reality and their application to urban planning, urban simulation and estimating planning project's influence on reality environment. Finally it points out the subjects being solved for digital urban planning and the trend of VR's application to urban planning in the future.
