A historical interpretation of public buildings such as temples, theaters and stadiums and their spaces in ancient Greece from the perspective of public sphere reveals that the public activities taking place there, either religious or social and cultural, all constituted part of political activities of a particular city state and reflected the openness and democracy of its politics. Further, the dominance of public sphere and the less importance of private sphere pointed to the predominance of democracy over freedom in the political life of city states, an important difference from the free democracy of the present West.
