On the basis of force analysis of the fluo plastic working barrel seal rings in a hydraulic pump, the authors, for the sake of improving the sealing property, recommend to add a triangular groove on the outer flank above the seal line of the ring so as to make the compressed ring deformed to a 'S' shape instead of the bow shape by conventional rings. The allowable deformation of the shape-optimized rings is increased by 45% and the sealing property is improved distinctly.
