This article introduces the material properties of ductile iron gears and their application on pumping units, and indicates that using ductile iron instead of alloy steels to make gears for pumping units and other oilfield equipment has the advantage of lighter weight, lower noise, higher wear-resistance, better machinability, simpler heat-treatment procedure, and more effcient material and energy consumption.
