Epilepsy, Tourette's syndrome and Huntington's disease: psychiatric aspects

摘要 Epidemiology and aetiology: psychiatric disorders affect 30 - 50% of individuals with epilepsy. They may result from the underlying cerebral pathology(particularly in temporal lobe epilepsy, TLE) or may be secondary to the psychosocial consequences of seizures. Suicide and deliberate self-harm are 4 - 5 times more common in patients with epilepsy than in the general population, particularly in those with TLE or a history of self-harm. The most common disorders are listed in Figure 1.
