Conjunctions: The Roles in Genre Construction and Identification

本篇论文重点探讨了语篇中连接词语义体系与语篇体裁之间的关系。本篇论文提出的假设是 :连接词和其所产生的逻辑语义和语篇体裁或体裁的某个阶段有着密不可分的关系。本篇论文要解决的问题是 :不同类型的连接词在不同的语篇类型中是怎样为语篇的体裁构建和语篇的类别辨认做出贡献。本文所使用的语料都选自于海明威的《老人与海》。本文研究所得出的基本结论是 :语言是一个社会符号体系。语篇体裁在本质上也是一个社会符号体系。就连接词而言 ,语篇体裁所具有的交际目的可以使不同类型的连接词在不同的语篇体裁中占主导地位。换言之 ,连接词和其所产生的逻辑语义可以帮助建立某个语篇的体裁地位。

This paper mainly discusses the relationship between genre and the Conjunction. Through analysis of the micro register texts taken from Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, it is found that the narrative text always has the external temporal relation under the general category of ‘enhancement' as the dominating type of conjunctive relation. The descriptive text always has the semantic logical relations marked by the internal temporal Conjunctions and addictive Conjunctions as the important conjunctive relation. In opinion texts, the semantic logical relations marked by the internal adversary Conjunctions and addictive Conjunctions are quite common. All of them enable us to tentatively generalize that the text type is not only realized by the generic structure potential but also by the semantic logical relations and the Conjunctions on the linguistic level. Our basic conclusion is that language is a semiotic system, and so is the text type.
