Status and Outlook for Ginkgo Culture, Development and Utilization in Foreign Countries

Ginkgo has high edible and medicinal value. Extensive researches on its culturetechnique and variety selection have been conducted in Japan, North Korea, South Korea,USA, New Zealand and Canada. A lot of good varieties have been selected and extended.They emphasize the value of ginkgo to be exploited. Except that it can be used as an ingra-dient in food, the medicinai extracts can be prepared into injection, liquid, liquid for intra-venous injection, sugarcoating and slow release tablet, which are effective in curing hrper-tension, cerebral arteriosclerosis, diabetes and cardiac haemal diseases. It is nontoxic even ifadministered for a long time. The author makes some recommendations on the ginkgoculture and exploitation: quickly extending the fast growing, high yielding culture techniq-ue, with much effort mede in improving the yield/plant; according to a plan settinS up highstandard and high yielding orchards with closely planted dwarf ginkgos for seed and leafgathering, with seed increase bases expedient1y established and widely extended; reinforcingresearches on its production, exploitation and on integrated processing.
