This paper describes the validity of centrifugal modelling similarity proved by the self-weight stress of semi-infinite foundation, basic control equation, energy equation, and dimensional analysis. Then, the inherent error of centrifugal modelling is systematically analysed. Finally, some practical basic modelling techniques of geotechnical centrifugal model test are presented.
