摘要
明世德堂百回本《西游记》,与之前的同类作品相比,不论是从思想性还是艺术性来说,都堪称是集大成之作。其写定者的艺术创新是全方位的,这一点从孙悟空、猪八戒两个形象的艺术演进即可一目了然。这两个形象的美学意义是在对前此形象的改造过程中逐步获得的,如果说对孙悟空进行的是"净化"处理,那么,对猪八戒则是不折不扣的"丑化",无论是"净化"还是"丑化",都显示了百回本写定者非凡的艺术功力。
The Journal to the West undoubtedly stands out in terms of philosophy and artistic achievement compared with other works of its type. The artistic innovation is represented in an all-round way which is clearly identified in the artistic evolution of the two characters of Sun Wu-kong and Zhu Ba-jie. The aesthetic implication of the two characters are gained in the process of reforming the former images. If Sun Wu-kong is thought to result from purification, Zhu Ba-jie is surely the result of vilification. Both purification and vilification well indicate the artistic strength of the writers.
