把语法与修辞结合起来描写和研究是马建忠的语法著作《马氏文通》的一大特色。马氏研究语法的方法深受我国传统语文学和欧洲传统语法理论的影响，他在论字（词）和论句读中兼论修辞作用，在论述语法时阐释修辞方法和评论语言风格。马氏的研究方法独具特色，对后世的语法研究产生了深远的影响。

One of the great features in Ma Jianzhong's book 'Ma's Grammar' is to describe and study grammar in combination with rhetoric. His way of syntactic analysis is influenced by the traditional Chinese philology and the traditional grammatical theory in Europe. He analyzes the rhetorical function in the discussion of words, phrases and sentences. When stating grammar he explains the rhetorical ways and comments the language style. Ma shows his unique way in his grammar study, thus producing a profound effect on the succeeding genera- tions.
