Review of Du Weiming' Opinion about Contemporary Intellectual

五四时期，在救亡图存的社会运动中，西化派的知识分子对传统文化特别是儒家文化的阴暗面进行了猛烈的攻击，而保守派则在继承的同时艰难地寻求着儒家传统的现代转化。面对传统文化在现代所受到的强大挑战，现代社会的知识分子应该在关切政治、参与社会事务的同时，积极继承发扬传统文化中的精华，为实现传统文化的现代转化作出自己的贡献。杜维明的这一现代知识分子观在我们看来有其合理之处，同时还存在着一些不足。

Du Weiming holds that contemporary intellectual not only pay attention to carry forward the good traditions but also show concern over politics and social work which similar to “shi” opinion of traditional China. Intellectuals of the May 4th period engendered difference about the development of traditional civilization (especially Confucianism). Facing the challenge of traditional civilization suffering contemporary intellectual must bring self-criticism consciousness into play and contribute their share. We think Du weiming' opinion about contemporary intellectual have some shortcoming at the same time have some reasonable piece.
