In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries,in the broad historical context of the British and Irish archipelago,Ireland saw the formation of three different national identities:Catholic-Gaelic identity,Protestant Anglo-Irish identity and Presbyterian Scottish identity.In the later history of Ireland,the identities primarily expressed themselves in different and opposing conceptions of political authority and in the myth of property and became the crucial cause for the turmoil and split of the country.It is vital to recognize correctly the influence of Irish diversified national identities to solve the'Irish Problem'.
