The Fate of Hook' s Theory on Democracy in China

杜威以其论民主的著作而名扬四海,曾一度在中国受到热烈的欢迎;作为杜威的高足,胡克继承了其老师杜威的思想并予以发挥,可是他的民主理论却在中国文化领域内反应冷淡。从移植原理来看,主要是因为胡克的民主理论与中国文化有着极大的不相容性,并且伤害了中国人的政治感情。

Dewey was famous for his works on democracy in the world, which made him beloved in China. As a glorious disciple of Dewey' s, Hook inherited Dewey' s theory, but Hook' s theory on democracy was inconsistent with Chinese culture, and that his theory hurt the political feeling of Chinese people.
