The Bingling Temple Caves are located in the vital communication line of the south land of the ancient Silk Road which connected the Tang Dynasty with the Tibetan Empire. With the flourishing of the economic and cultural exchanges between the Tang and the Tibetans, the Road between the Tang and the Tibet became more important while the Bingling Temple Caves more prosperous. Up to now, we can read a great number of the Chinese Inscriptions in the caves which are important historical datum for the studies of relation- ship between the Tang Dynasty and the Tibetan Empire. For example, an inscription rescription that Li Jingxuan 李敬玄, a peneral of the Tang led his troops to make a punitive expedition to the Tibetan in the 3rd year of the Yi - feng 仪凤 Era (618). Another one said that a envy troupe from the Tang to the Tibetans led by Cui Lin 崔林 passed through the Bingling Temple Caves and worshiped Buddha in,the 19th rear or the Kai - yuan 开元 Era (731).
