The reason that Hundred Days Reform started and ended in an abrupt way was that Kang Yu-wei had been inappropriatively involved in the contridictions and conflicts between the Emperor Guang Xu and CiXi. Kang Yuwei's principle of supporting Guang Xu and suppressing CiXi had met Guang Xu's want and need, hence Hundred Days Reform started suddenly and unexpectedly. Yet the socalled programme of respecting the Emperor and attacking the rebel faction, and Kang Yuwei & Tan Sitong's plot to kill Rong Lu and besiege the Summer Palace with army to save the Emperor, had directly endangered CiXi's status. Their activities resulted in Hundred Days Reform ended quickly.
