摘要
为了考察汉文化的修辞模式及其表现形式,选用学生ESL作文作为分析样本,请美国著名语言学家和语篇分析专家WallaceChafe进行评判,并对评判结果进行分析和归类。结果表明,学生ESL作文修辞模式的个体差异导致了修辞模式的多样性,具体表现为东西方模式兼而有之,但以东方模式居多,即使是东方模式也存在比Kaplan的研究结果更为复杂的表现形式:螺旋型、中立型和权威型。在此基础上,文章进一步讨论了与修辞模式多样性相关的社会文化因素。
To examine Chinese cultural thought patterns, text samples are selected from students’ESL writings, and are measured and evaluated by the American linguist Wallace Chafe. Results demonstrate individual differences in rhetoric patterns among students. Both oriental and western styles coexist, but the former occurs with a higher frequency. The oriental style, which proves to be more complicated than what has been described by Robert Kaplan, can be subdivided into spiral, neutral and authoritative patterns. The paper further discusses socio-cultural factors relevant to diversity in rhetoric patterns in the Chinese culture.
