猪八戒命名的宗教意蕴考释

文章以佛教戒律、教义,参之以道教知识和中国传统文化对猪八戒这一宗教小说人物的命名含义进行考释。认为"八戒"除了戒律的内涵外,还有初皈依沙门的信徒的用意。"猪"的来源与道教的炼丹术有关,是由猪八戒在《西游记》中代表"肝气之木"所决定的。详释了猪八戒在取经队伍中的地位、作用,并在佛教文化中找到了小说塑造这一有道德缺陷的人物的依据"贪欲即道"。

This paper makes an analysis of the connotation of the name Zhu-Bajie by resorting to Buddhism,Taoism and traditional Chinese culture. It is pointed out in this paper that in addition to taking the meaning of commandment, Bajie also means converting into a Buddhist. The origin of 'Pig' is associated with Taoist making pills of immortality. The name reveals Zhu-Bajie′s position and influence in the pilgrimage and the author found the basis of creating this character with moral defects from Buddhism'Greediness is Tao'.
