The Lost ″Golden Age″: The Descriptions of Scenery in Dostoevsky′s Works

In Greek myths and legends, the ″Golden Age″ is the first age in human history, which represents the beautiful life style of human beings. Yet this ″Golden Age″ takes a different form and style in Dostoevsky′s literary works, in which the natural scenery is gloomy and dreary, reflecting a brutal, decadent and evil world. In this context of the dark society, Dostoevsky presents a beautiful picture of the lost ″Golden Age″. However, for Dostoevsky, this lost ″Golden age″ has become a spiritual sustenance and utopian ideal.
