The types and technical development of nickel cadmium battery are described. The applications of the nickel cadmium battery in the electric locomotive, coach, diesel locomotive,signal system of the railway communication, electronic guard's van, high speed train, track checking train and subway system are introduced. The development trend of special battery in railway system are also briefly described.
