大力发展农产品和农业产业化对于提升农村经济发展整体效益，促进农民增收，有效缓解“三农”问题，具有重要的作用和意义。目前与国家财政有关的支持农产品加工及产业化的政策，包括国家固定资产投资中用于农产品精深加工的项目、农业综合开发资金用于支持农业产业化龙头企业、对农产品加工业的税收优惠政策等。同时，中央财政还设立了支持农业产业化的专项资金。
