A Comparative Study of Don Quixote and The Great Gatsby from a Thematic Perspective

<堂吉诃德>和<了不起的盖茨比>都是西方文学中的经典之作,堂吉诃德和盖茨比都是著名的文学形象.两部经典中主人公的理想追求及其最终命运表明,道德是两部小说共同的一个重要主题.但是,在解读堂吉诃德形象与盖茨比形象方面,读者反应存在着一种偏颇:过分重视两位形象的影子作用而较少注意他们所反映的道德精神.

Both Don Quixote and The Great Gatsby are classics of the Western literature, and their heroes, Don Quixote and Gatsby, are great literary characters. A comparative study of Don Quixote and Gatsby in terms of their ideal and fate shows that a major theme of the two classics is their moral concerns, which often draws little critical attention due to the critical stress overwhelmingly upon Don Quixote and Gatsby as mirror images rather than as moral spirit.
