Three Subjects in Reading Qu——Reading notes of Xu Shuofang talking about XiQU

“散曲”是包含“小令”(非“只曲”)和“套数”两种基本子类的曲学概念 ,此称于史可征 ,合乎逻辑 ;“散套”与“剧套”差异甚大 ,分类不仅合理而且必要 ,不能将两者混为一谈 ;王实甫《西厢记》创作于金哀宗元年之说 ,包括王实甫为金代作家的说法 ,不能成立 ;南戏非源于温州说缺乏依据。

Sanqu' is the historical and logical concept of the Qu study that contains two basic kinds. One is 'Xiaoling' ——not 'Zhiqu', the other is 'Taoshu'. The difference between 'Santao' and 'Jutao' is so large that it is reasonable and necessary to classify and not to intermix the two. The theory that it was in the first year of Ai Emperor of the Jin Dynasty that Wang Shifu wrote The Story Happens in XiXiang and the saying that WangShifu was the writer of Jin Dynasty are both wrong; the saying that 'South Opera' did not come of Wen zhou lacks grounds.
