This paper introduces the theory of clause relation by Michael Hoey and his three discourse patterns (Porblem Solution Pattern, Matching Pattern, General Particular Pattern) and makes a detailed analysis on the basis of the theory with specific discourses. Discourse analysis by clause relation theory is especially of great use in the teaching of reading and writing, and the materials development.
