A Dream of Global Geological Renaissance in Italy

在20世纪70年代中期世界粮食危机中,世界粮农组织(AFO)首先提出了粮食安全的概念,定义为:保证任何人在任何时候都能得到为了生存和健康所需要的足够食品.这一概念自提出以来一直在不断演变,但其基本内容依然不变.1983年,粮农组织总干事爱德华对"粮食安全"概念作了新的更为确切的定义,并得到了广泛的认同.新定义为:粮食安全的最终目标应该是确保所有的人在任何时候都能买得到又能买得起他们所需要的基本食品.

The International Geological Congress, which is held once four years and called 'an Olympic Congress of Geological Sphere ', have provided the geological community with an opportunity to create an organization framework for meeting at regular intervals in a spirit of fraternal cooperation that transcends oceans, languages and wars since its beginning in 1878. In August, 2004, the 32nd International Geological Congress was successfully held in Florence, Italy, where attracted about 76 thousand geologists from 141 countries and regions, in which Chinese delegation with 486 representatives took part in the congress. In the opening ceremony, Minister Sun Wensheng of Land & Resources as a specially invited representative made a speech, in which he introduced to all the representatives that Chinese Government paid great attention to the geological science and technology research work, and recently put forward a scientific concept of development, which should be used to guide all administration work. His speach won the longest applause of the audience from all over the world. In the Geoexpo, Chinese Exhibition Booth attracted many visitors, which showing the newest achievements in geological scientific research, including investigation and exploration of energy and mineral resources, environmental protection and geoparks, etc. The third focus of Chinese Delegation is that Professor Zhang Hongren was elected the Chairman of the 32nd International Union of Geological Sciences, which is the pride of our all Chinese people. Florence has witnessed the blossoming of both great art and great minds, and the cradle of many pioneering scientific concepts over the centuries. The congress had created a forum for the broad debate of the most significant advances in the geological sciences, to foster new ideas and models for implementing a close interplay between pure science and its applications, and to promote discussion of the Congress theme: from the Mediterranean Area Toward a Global Geological Renaissance.
