A Comparison between the Humor of Lao She and that of Xu Zhimo

老舍与徐志摩同受英国文化的影响,因此他们的作品都呈现出温和的幽默特性,但由于两人的气质、个性、家世、经历的差异,他们的幽默也存在着明显的差异。从这一比较中,我们可以发现,对异域文化的吸收程度是与接受者本身的状况密不可分的,而成就的大小又和接受者此前的相关积累及本土化程度分不开。

Under the influence of English culture, the works of Laos She and Xu Zhimo both displayed the characteristic of mild humour. However, because of their own disposition, personality, family origin and life experiences, they existed distinct differences in their style of humor. A comparison between the two leads to the conclusion that the level of assimilating foreign culture is closely linked to the situation of the receiver, and that the achievement of assimilation greatly depends upon the previous cultural accumulation and degree of cultural localization.
