The paper briefly introduces the subjects presented at the 32nd International Geological Congress (IGC). Of seven plenary lectures, six were related to environment geology, reflecting that the study centering on the interaction between mankind and the Earth has become a theme that geologists have to pay attention to. The following important subjects concerning environmental geology are introduced: climate and geological environment, risk assessment of geological hazards, urbanization and urban geology, groundwater resources and environment and geo-environmental indicators. The paper elucidates some ideas about the rejuvenation of global geology, including the following theme: human activities have become a geological agent and geological work should be the main force in the management of the Earth, with emphasis on the prediction of the future of mankind, the geological environment and Earth′s environment and the Earth system and the Earth.
