Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significance of anion gap (AG) in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).Methods The blood gas analysis and serum electrolyte were tested in 150 cases of neonates with HIE and 70 cases of normal neonates, count AG value, paired observation was carried out. Results The 139 cases of neonates with HIE has acid-base disorders,91 cases of them were metabolic acidosis with high AG value, the AG value in the HIE group were significantly higher than that in the normal control group (P<0.01),especially in neonates with severe HIE.Conclusion When the neonates had HIE,there often exists acid-base disorders. So we should monitor closely the changes of the blood gas and serum electrolyte, count AG value, discover promptly to correct acid-base and electrolyte disorders, and it will raise the cure rate of neonates with HIE.
