任意性原则是索绪尔语言理论的基础,国内学界近年来不断有研究者以“理据性”对其提出质疑。任意性包含绝对任意性和相对任意性。“理据性”与“相对任意性”实质相同,并未超出索绪尔的理论范畴。

The principle of arbitrariness is the foundation for the linguistic theory of Ferdinand de Saussure. But in recent years researchers now and then come to question the principle with“motivation”. Arbitrariness consists of an absolute one and a relative one.“Motivation”is in essence the same as the“relative arbitrariness”. It does not go beyond the theoretical category of Saussure.
