The Matter of Equivalence in the Translation of Metaphors from English into Chinese and Vice Versa

本文首先介绍了隐喻的基本概念和隐喻的认知基础。接着 ,分析了英汉隐喻互译过程中隐喻对应的三种情况 :基本对应、部分对应和完全不对应 ,并以大量的实例探讨了从认知的角度如何处理英汉隐喻互译中存在的对应问题。

This paper, first of all gives an introduction to the basic concept of metaphor and the foundation for recognizing metaphors. Then it analyzes the three aspects of the equivalence in the translation of metaphors from English into Chinese and vice versa: close correspondence, partial correspondence and non-equivalence. With a host of examples and from the perspective of cognition, it also explores the ways of dealing with the problem of equivalence in the translation of metaphors.
