曼斯菲尔德与凌叔华短篇小说人物塑造方法之比较

A Comparative Study on the Characterization in the Short Stories of Mansfield and Lingshuhua

人物的言词和思想(也即人物话语)是小说家塑造人物的主要手段。曼斯菲尔德和凌叔华是两位处于相近历史时期的现代女性作家。前者被称为英国的"契诃夫";后者被称为"中国的曼斯菲尔德",受契诃夫的影响也颇深。她们都把人物话语作为塑造人物的主要方法,致力于反映人物"心灵的真实"。本文选取她们有代表性的作品比较运用人物话语塑造人物的方法,以期从西方现代文学理论和中国文学的角度共同理解她们含蓄细腻的心理写实和清逸淡雅的风格。

Character speech and thought are one of the usual means that novelists employ for characterization. Mansfield and Lingshuhua are contemporary modern female writers, who are referred to as 'Chekhov of Britain' and 'Mansfield of China' respectively. Lingshuhua is also deeply influenced by Chekhov. They devote themselves to depicting the psychological reality of their characters, adopting character speech and thought as the main means. In this essay, I attempt to make a comparative study on their characterization, with a view to understanding their implicit, minute description of the character psycho-reality and the simple, elegant and graceful style with both Chinese and modern western literary theories.
