邓小平一生中以其强烈的民族情感和民族精神,热切地关注着中国少数民族地区包括西藏地区的建设和发展问题。他关于西藏民族问题的思想主要表现在消除帝国主义在西藏民族问题上的破坏性作用,化解汉藏隔阂与矛盾,实现民族团结,维护祖国统一,是做好西藏民族工作的基点;贯彻慎重稳进方针,以求安定团结,在平稳中求发展,是做好西藏民族工作的准则;前瞻未来,立足于使西藏尽快发展,让人民早日过上富裕、幸福的生活,是做好西藏民族工作的根本任务。

Deng Xiaoping enthusiastically concerns about the issue of construction and development in the region of ethnic minority groups including Tibet, which is based on his intense ethnic feeling and spirit. His ideas about the ethnic issue on Tibet mainly lie in the following aspects: to eliminate the destructive impact on the ethnic issue on Tibet coming from imperialistic countries; to resolve the conflict and misunderstanding between Hans and Tibetans. Deng Xiaoping considers it to be a basic point to do the ethnic work well in Tibet if we realize the solidarity of nations and preserve the unification of the country. He considers it to be a principle to do the work well if we carry on the ″safe and sound″ principle based on stability and solidarity of the country. Besides, we should make development in a stable circumstance. The fundamental task of ethnic work in Tibet according to Deng is that we should look into the future and help Tibet to develop as fast as possible and also help the people in Tibet to live a rich and happy life as soon as possible.
