摘要
委婉语是一种语言现象 ,也是一种社会现象。每种语言都有着丰富的委婉语 ,其构成方式一般可分为语音委婉、语义委婉和语法委婉。委婉语通过其避讳功能。
Euphemism, as a linguistic and a social phenomenon, plays the part of lubricant in communication, avoiding the embarrassment of the listener caused by the straightforwardness of the speaker. There exist many different ways of euphemism construction. Based on the usage of euphemism in western countries, the paper mainly explores and analyses its three communicative functions: taboo avoidance, expression politeness, and concealment of truth.
