通过追述洛阳寺庙的兴废 ,凸显佞佛之风的危害 ,以期东魏从中汲取经验教训 ,是杨之撰述《洛阳伽蓝记》的旨趣所在。《洛阳伽蓝记》之所以采用文注分列的编纂体例 ,更有可能受启发于当时经史书籍的类似措置。明末清初以降 ,该书主要得益于传统学术的转型 ,而日益受到学界的推崇。

To make Dongwei governor realize the harm of indulging in Buddhism by relating the ups and downs of temples located in Luoyang district, was the real writing purpose of Yang Xuanzhi. The editorial style of LUOYANGQIELANJI maybe possibly enlightened from Confucian or history books. Since late Ming dynasty and early Qing dynasty, LUOYANGQIELANJI was more and more hold in esteem due to the academic transformation.
