Democratic Transformation in the Middle East and America's Great Middle East Initiative

When the 1980s changes into the 1990s, to promote democratization in the Middle East for a time became the major goal of America's policy. However, the horrible prospect that democratization might mean Islamization effectively ward off American zeal for promoting political reforms in the region. After the Sept. 11 incident, democratizing the Middle East returns to US-Middle East diplomacy agenda. What's more, it seems that America integrates such concepts as change of government, democratic transformation and national security, and attempts at the democratic transformation in the Mille East, even in the whole Islamic world through a comprehensive action plan called Great Middle East Initiative, which might bring the region into another chaos.
