“镜像阶段”理论在法国精神分析学家雅克·拉康理论体系中占有重要的地位。在威廉·戈尔丁的小说《黑暗昭昭》中,男女主人公经历了类似结构的人生转折:同样“重演”了“镜像阶段”主体人格的构成,同样面对镜像的完满与无情的现实之间的鸿沟,同样亲历“异化”,而他们的选择却有天堂和地狱之分。前者尽力与镜像抑或理想的形象求同,自此走上了通往光明与极善的正道,而后者竭力否定甚至攻击镜像的完满,从而踏上通向黑暗与极恶的险途。
Darkness visible' was seen as the immediate occasion for awarding William Golding the 1983 Nobel Prize. The propensities for Matty's and Sophy's sainfulness are demonstrated deplicitly by Gold-ing's graphing of their stages of growth. With the ultimately thorough submission to Godthefather, Matty finally ends the state of being caught in the identificatory web of the Imaginary, and reestablishes his identity of being a prophet, to foretell the final judgement. The stages of Matty's growth reflect a propensity towards selfcontrol and extreme goodness. Yet unlike Matty,Sophy has repeated the process of constructing a centre of self,or else, the reexperience of the Mirror stage helps her construct her blind egotism. So,Sophy' s reflect a propensity towards self indulgence and extreme evil. The positive and negative spiritual power render the Lacanian theory'the Mirror Stage'operating in reverse, thus the stark contrasts between good and evil,light and darkness have been revealed explicitly.
