The narration pattern of gods killing ghosts, rescuing the people is like that of chivalrous heroes making a living away from their hometown and doing righteous things all over the country. Gods uphold justice with their magic arts, while chivalrous heroes are competent and chivalrous by the force of arms, so magic arts and force of arms have produced the compatibility in the cultural meaning. Gods-and-ghosts novels showed in many angles the influence of chivalrous culture. And as two major novel schools of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, gods-and-ghosts novels and the formal chivalry novels, were homogenous, and rose and declined in succession.
