By means of modern narrative skill, Fu Sang tells the miserable and legendary stories of Chinese emigrants in America and deeply introspects the long history of the emigrants. The narrator's imagination strays between the present and the past, realities and fictions. Firstly she doubts and deconstructs those documents with bias and discrimination, and then imagines and reconstructs the remote past with her experiences. But at last she has to re-deconstruct the history in her novel. The breakthroughs and limits of new historicism are well presented in Fu Sang.
