As the contemporary laureate in Irish literature, Roddy Doyle has employed postmodern techniques to reflect a rapidly changing Irish reality. His successful literary creation suggests that postmodern techniques and social realism are not contradictory. On the contrary, to use postmodern techniques to depict a new reality has become a trend in contemporary Irish and western literature.
