Kawabata Yasunari's postwar works , especially his ″intermediate novels″, are not short of social themes as being acused of by some critics. Facing the reality , he elaborately depicted the confusion , evil and sadness in his society . He showed that the war brought mental injury and shadow to people's life and love , and that people's ideal of magnificent prospects were ruined. Besides, his novels also reveals his criticism of the American occupation army's policy. All these disasters are the other reality during the postwar years in his society.
