Preliminary Studies on the Life Cycle of Ovomermis Xiamenensis

报道厦门岛西南部沿海寄生于蝗虫体内的厦门卵索线虫(Ovomeris xiamenensis)的生活史,对发育过程和发育各期的形态特征进行了较详细的描述,本种线虫生活周期为一年.

Experiment shows that it takes about I year for O. xiamenensis to complete life cycle. The adults occur in the soil where eggs are deposited.The 1st stage larvae are formmed inside the eggs about 25-30 days after ovipositionn, and the 1st molt happpens within the egg. The 2nd stege larvae(pre-parasitic)hatch from the eggs and inhabit in the soil infest the nymph of the locust through its bodyball. The 2nd moit occurs about 5 days after infestation the 3rd stage larvae (parasitic) last at least one month at 22-26℃ in locust.then the larvae(post-parastic) emerge from the host and enter the soil again. The 3rd and 4th molts occur simultaneously within 40 days after emergence,and adults are formed. The propagation is strictly bisexual, after mating, the males die in 4 weeks,the pregnant females continue developing and ovipositing in about two months.
