An Analysis of Hanja of Chinese Origin and Korean Coinage

韩国语汉字词可分为两大系列:一是汉源词,二是韩国独有汉字词。究其本源,汉源词理应属于外来词,但是汉源词在韩国语词汇体系中占有很重要的地位,已形成了自己的体系,所以,韩国语学界不把它归属到外来词里,而是和韩国独有汉字词一起归属到汉字词里。

The Hanja in Korean language can fall into two categories: Hanja of Chinese origin, and Hanja of Korean coinage. If traced back to the origin, Hanja of Chinese origin should be categorized as borrowed word. However, it has been evolved into a self-contained system, playing an important role in Korean word bank.It is therefore agreed by many scholars in the Republic of Korea that Hanja of Chinese origin, together with the Hanja of Korean coinage, should both be categorized as Hanja, or Chinese character, rather than consider the former as borrowed word.
