A Summary on Ten New Theories of Ways of Derivation of Meaning

“聚合同化”诸说大多源于王念孙《广雅疏证》的“同义相因”说,“聚合同化”说和“组合同化”说又都与现代语言学理论相契合,因而有着重要的理论价值和方法论意义。

This paper examines ten theories such as Mutually Affected Semantic Generation of Two Words(相因 生义)in ancient Chinese. Then it argues that such theories as Polymerization-assimilation(聚合同化)mainly originated from Mutually Affection of synonymous(同义相因) of Guang Ya Shu Zheng(广雅疏证)written by WangNian-sun (王念孙).Therefore, the two theories, Combination- assimilation and Polymerization- assimilation are correspond to modern linguistic theory. They are valuable in theory and importance in methodology .However, as they belong to a new type of theory systems which remained to be proved , these theories have some deficiency such as linking cause with effect inadequately, judging on simultaneous extension of meaning subjectively, illustrating with inappropriate examples and explaining the meaning at will in context.
